Abstract
We demonstrate that galactic red and blue shifts are fully explained by surface position on a rolling torus without recourse to recessional velocity, dark energy, or inflationary cosmology. The cosmological constant Λ is shown to equal zero. The cosmic microwave background temperature (2.725 K) is identified as the continuous thermal signature of the torus throat at fixed impedance c². Hubble's constant H₀ is reinterpreted as the torus surface roll rate through the throat. Six open problems in cosmology are resolved simultaneously by one geometric primitive.
1. The Rolling Torus Model
The universe is modeled as a single torus with two hemispheres:
- Hemisphere 6 (H6): Structure, mass, gravity. The visible cosmos.
- Hemisphere 9 (H9): Resonance, electromagnetism. The occulted cosmos.
- Throat (3): The governor. Fixed impedance c². Finite width. No singularity.
The torus surface rolls continuously through the throat. Matter does not move through space. Matter rides tiles on the rolling surface. All relative motion is surface position, not velocity.
2. Redshift and Blueshift
An observer at tube-angle position φ_obs looks along the ring direction θ.
Redshift: A target galaxy at φ_target > φ_obs (further from throat on the outward roll) has more surface between it and the observer. Surface is being added continuously by the roll. The photon traversing this expanding surface is stretched: λ_observed > λ_emitted. Redshift.
Blueshift: A target galaxy at φ_target < φ_obs (closer to throat exit) has less surface between it and the observer. The surface between them compresses as the roll carries the target toward the observer's position. λ_observed < λ_emitted. Blueshift.
Hubble's Law: v = H₀d becomes Δλ/λ = R(Δφ), where R is the roll rate and Δφ is the tube-angle separation. H₀ = c² / A(φ_obs), where A(φ) is the local surface area at the observer's tube-angle position. H₀ is constant for a given observer because c² is constant and A(φ_obs) is fixed for the observer's lifetime.
3. Dark Energy Eliminated
The observed "acceleration" of expansion (Perlmutter, Riess, 1998):
Surface area A(φ) increases from throat to apex. The throat pump rate c² is constant. Expansion per unit surface = c² / A(φ). For observers at large φ (far from throat), looking back toward the throat, they see historical expansion rates at smaller A(φ), which were higher per unit. This creates the appearance of acceleration: earlier expansion was faster because the surface was smaller. No dark energy. No Λ. Constant pump. Increasing area.
4. CMB as Throat Signature
The throat radiates at fixed temperature T_throat = f(c²). On a torus, every surface point has equal geodesic distance to the nearest throat crossing. The throat is the equator. Look in any direction: same distance to throat. Same thermal signature. Same temperature.
T_CMB = 2.725 K is not a cooling relic. It is the continuous emission of the throat at its operating impedance.
5. Isotropy, Horizon, and Flatness
- Isotropy: Throat symmetry guarantees uniform radiation in all directions.
- Horizon: All regions are causally connected through the throat. No horizon problem.
- Flatness: A flat torus (zero Gaussian curvature) is a well-defined mathematical object. The universe is flat because the torus surface is flat. Exactly. Not approximately.
No inflation required.
6. Testable Predictions
- The ratio of redshifted to blueshifted galaxies in deep field surveys should follow torus surface curvature, not gravitational potential.
- CMB temperature should show no secular drift over cosmological timescales (it is not cooling).
- Baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) scale should correspond to torus tube circumference at the observer's φ position.
- The "axis of evil" (CMB anomaly along one axis) may correspond to the throat alignment relative to the observer.
